On the way there, we passed this 18th century castle.
Here are some shots as we're entering the Burren. It's a rocky place covered in limestone boulders.
We had lunch in a little village called Doolin. This is how much of rural Ireland looks.
We then got to what I was really looking forward to. The Cliffs of Moher. These cliffs are over 600 ft tall. There is a fence that runs the entire way along the cliff face, which is a good thing.
The next two shots are looking from the cliffs back toward the road. These cliffs are kind of on a peninsula, so there is water behind you as well.
There were some little shops around the cliffs, and I noticed this little hurling guy. Hmm looks familiar.....
Take a look at where he's from....
Killkeny....who else is from Killkeny?
We then swung by an ancient tomb. This tomb is called the Poulnabrone Dolmen. The words Poll na mBrón mean "hole of sorrows" in Irish. This tomb dates back to around 4200 BC. 16 adults and 6 children were found when they excavated the site.
On the way back to Galway, we stopped at Ailwee cave. Here are some shots from the inside.
I still like the caves in Monterrey better, but this was fun.
More later on my Sunday in the Aran Islands.
